Time is just a Construct–Now Wine on the Other Hand…

Today, I took apart an alarm clock. It was DED to me. To be more transparent, most of the buttons were no longer functioning so all I could do is give it a good death.

If you read my last post, I’ve been reading (finally!) Atomic Habits by James Clear and it’s time to evaluate my habits. Now, I haven’t done a great job since it’s only day one–day two??–but in order to not overwhelm myself, I’ve focused on one…

James has 4 laws on how to create and break a habit. While I should focus on creating good, I couldn’t help but focus on one particular ‘bad’. Since I’m only on step one, it’s time to make the bad invincible!

Every morning, my phone rings and jingles. After snoozing about 2-5 times, I instantly check social media to wake up. What have I missed since I was asleep? I focus on world news, what’s happening with friends that stay up later than me, and what recipes the food network recommends today. It’s a mix of junk, really. I spend an WAY too much time on the internet and there’s no positive outcomes. None. Maybe 5%. It’s just not a good way to spend my time.

His first ‘law’ is to reduce exposure to the bad habits. I need to kill my cell phone! …Or just move it to another room in the house. Tomorrow morning will be my first time using an alarm clock since my mom use to try to get me up for school. While the alarm may not have a squirt gun to splash cold water on my face, I hope that the thought of not checking email will leap me out of bed.

While I don’t think drinking wine is a bad habit (not yet anyway….) I have been thinking about reviewing some wines on my Reviews page. I stopped at a lovely shop near our home, called Schaefers and picked up three bottles of red. I’ve been dabbling in the Spanish reds, Joven or Tempranillo. I’m a big fan of Cab Sauv’s so it’s natural to move to this type especially if they use oak barrels for that same finish.

If you couldn’t tell, I’ve been drinking wine while I type. I’m sipping Camina Tempranillo 2019. When I first poured, I smelled perfume! I couldn’t not smell it! I gave it to my husband and he thought I was crazy (typical)–it was a clean glass too! After the first class, the smell went away. I could never taste the perfume. It will forever be a mystery…

If you like deep reds and want to venture out, I recommend this wine. While the label doesn’t mention much about this particular wine, it does mention notes about how it looks, aroma (no perfume, sadly), taste, and best pairings. If you had this before or recommend something similar, mention it in the comments! I’m always looking for recommendations.

I hope my alarm clock experiment will prevail, if I can stick to only one to two glasses tonight 🙂 I’m still learning about myself and how I can be the best me. Let’s hope the other laws will be good to adapt!
