While doom scrolling on Instagram (my kind of doom scrolling–with pictures!) I came across a picture with written words…
“The next three months are the pre-game for 2024. Build your foundation now, Queen. Remove all distractions and negativity. Just focus on yourself.”
Now that I’ve had a few days to digest these words, the one concept I took away from the ‘photo’ was that there were three months left of 2023. Three months. The season is changing–though it was 80s in Chicago today–the trees know what time of the year it is. I’m never one to focus on myself primarily but I have three months to set myself up for the new year. Why wait when it’s January 1st? These words now reside as a widget on my iPhone and I see it every day to remind me that I should start today if I want to be a better me.

Calendar blocking. I watched a YouTube video today where Sam Corcos (Co-Founder, CEO at Levels) explained how they use their calendar as their to do list. I’ve slowly started to adjust my calendar to this but trying to attach an estimated time to the task is so difficult for me. Over the years, I’ve noticed that I have some ADHD tendencies, but I never pegged it with disorder. I thought this is just how I am!
In the next week, I’ll be timing myself to see how long it takes me to complete each step of my night routine. I haven’t seen it yet, but I’m a big believer in having a good night routine in order to have a good morning. Currently, this is what I’ll do to start winding down for the night:
- Shut down large screens like my monitors or watching on the TV
- Brush my three fur babies and their teeth (maybe not the cat’s teeth…we shall see!)
- Clean the dishes
- Wash my face then skincare
- Brush my teeth
- Pick out my clothes for tomorrow
- Run through what my morning looks like so I’m not running around the house collecting my items (wallet, keys, earbuds, etc.)
I’m prioritizing the health of my pets and my own health. While some of these I’ve been doing, I still don’t know how long each one takes and when I need to stop working on hobbies, side projects, or gaming. I’m excited to see how this turns out!
I’m tired of saying the same thing over and over again–I just don’t have enough time. I need to start making some small enough changes that matter to me the most. I’m going to go out with a bang for 2023 and I want to start strong for 2024.
You have three more months left of 2023. How are you choosing to improve your life and make for a better 2024?

I have many things to improve upon personally as well. I would say that I don’t have time, but in reality, I do have time. I choose instead to unwind and relax after work, but I could be more productive. Three months before the end of the year seems like a good time to re-evaluate my life and make good decisions and set goals for the rest of the year. Unfortunately, the procrastinator inside me is going to wait until next week. But, I do have goals and aspirations to obtain for the remainder of the year. I just have to set some time aside to figure out how I am going to do that. Best of luck though!
